Pink 1200 1973 Restoration

The strip down begins...

The inside's are out.

Suspension overhauled. Lowered and crossdrilled discs have been added.

Rear quarter lower repair panels have been fitted.

Two new floor pan halves will be fitted.

Along with new heater channels

Floor pan fitting now complete

The new doors will be solenoid operated.

Both front quarter panel have been de-seamed.

1" wider fibreglass wings will improve tyre clearance on this pan-scraper.

The car reveals its colourful past as the paint comes off.

Its a long process but worth all the effort to recover the fine lines of the bodywork.

The front clip is also being replaced.

Looks like 150mph head on collision!

An original 'full W' decklid is being fitted to age this '73 bug a little.

New front clip fitted and the quarter panels have been primered and blocked.

The high fill primer gives something of a desert military look!

In the process of bare metalling the engine bay...

... and under the bonnet.

Back on its wheels and starting to look like a bug again.

The car will be getting a complete new loom and re-wire.

A freshly primered car is a thing of beatuy...

Very clean! Ready for some tidy new wiring.

The shell has yet to be 'blocked' but should be ready for paint in a day or two ...

... It will be Slate Blue an original 1957 VW Type2 colour.

An empty space just crying out for a bit of POWER!

Engine bay and under bonnet are painted 'in house' before the car moves to the booth.

A shiney new 1955cc to replace the 1200 taken out! A Carter Race Gearbox is also being added.

The new powerplant has been shoe-horned into the back of the newly painted bug.

The flash photography doesn't quite do justice to the real colour, but it still looks good and its not been polished yet.

A perfect door line and no handles to 'get in the way'

The engine is temporarily wired for the first fire up. Broom broom ...

That Stainless exhaust system is the first clue that what lies inside is FAR from stock!

Its early days for the transformation of this bright Cal-looker.  Both halves of the floor have now been replaced along with new heater channels. Door gaps have been corrected for the shiny new doors (awaiting solenoid locks).  Rear Quarter repair panels have been fitted and the front quarter panels have been deseamed.  Top quality fibreglass wings are offered up and the front removed to fit a complete new front clip.

Having discovered that this car has changed its colour more often than it had probably changed its oil - we decided that the shell should be bare-metalled.  A long process, but worth the effort.

Its back on its wheels and the baremetalling continues under the bonnet and engine bay.  The shell has been etch primed and front/rear quarters are hi fill primed and blocked to a silky smooth finish. The old wiring loom/birds nest is out and a complete re-wire will follow.

Now etch- primered and awaiting a few coats of VW Slate Blue paint.

All painted and a new engine and gearbox fitted.  The new interior will be a TMI charcoal velour.  A few days now will see this car hitting the roads again.
